2009 SCAA
$1000 Scholarship Winner
Colby Greening
"Always making time for
art in everyday life has been something I've done since the
beginning of elementary school. My love for the arts kept my soul
thirsting for more and as I near the end of my school career I stay
looking for the next avenue in which I get the chance to make
another piece. With a goal to become an art/ photo teacher this
scholarship is already helping satiate the costs of material and
classes at the art center in Pasadena. I want to thank everyone
involved with the SCAA for giving such a generous gift and hope I
can give back to some degree in the future."
Update - June 2010 - Colby enrolled and completed the 2010
Saturday Spring Session at Art Center in Pasadena. He took the
Advanced Photography Classes and enjoyed the beautiful college and
his two wonderful instructors. Recently he received an Outstanding
Achievement Award at Canyon High for Excellence in Photography at
Senior Recognition Night. Colby is planning to attend Weber State
University in Ogden, Utah this Fall as a Freshman. He plans and
hopes to attain a BFA with a major in Photography and minor in Art
History and Education.

2008 SCAA
Scholarship Winner
Laura Nielsen
The Santa Clarita Artists' Association (SCAA) presented a $1,000 scholarship to Laura Nielsen,
College of Canyons (COC) graphic arts student, as an award
for the best logo competition. This contest was heavily
promoted to COC and Cal Arts students enrolled in the fine
arts and graphic arts departments. Not only did Laura
submit the most designs, but hers were carefully thought
out and skillfully executed. Sandy Fisher, president of
SCAA, said, "She certainly deserves the award and we're so
proud to honor her with this check to support her
educational goals."
Nielsen, a single mother, works and goes to college. She
will be transferring to Glendale Community College to
complete the Motion Graphics program.
"Your scholarship award
will pay for my entire semester including the software
application Adobe After Effects which I will need to advance
in this industry” said Nielsen. “Thank you again for this
award, this is a great confidence booster for me and
reinforces my belief that I will be successful!”
