PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE - August 2008
Sandy Fisher, SCAA President
Sandy@santaclaritaartists.org

Art Classic XIX will be here before we know it. Entry form and
prospectus are now available on-line.
This year the event will be held at Hart Hall in William S. Hart Park with the
gala happening from 2 – 6pm on Sunday, November 9th and free public viewing from
10am – 5pm on Saturday, November 8th. Mark your calendars now as
this promises to be a tremendous show with a team of 4 members (Jaylene
Armstrong, Shirley Checkos, Sandy Fisher and Zony Gordon) obtaining
sponsors for the event. Sponsors are critical in covering the costs
associated with facilities and equipment rent, promotional materials, catering, and
awards. You too can help with getting sponsors. If you work for a
business/corporation or have family members or friends that have connections, you can
print out both a “Sponsorship Opportunities” flyer and a “Sponsorship
Agreement” from our website under the link “Become a Sponsor”. Please
call Sandy Fisher at 661.618.0939 before contacting a potential sponsor to avoid duplication
of efforts or if you are unable to use the computer to print out the Sponsorship package.
The success of the Art Classic is critical in
providing the necessary support for our scholarship fund, purchase of exhibition panels and pedestals,
community outreach programs, ongoing demonstrations and future workshops. Members play an
important part, as well, in the success of the Art Classic by not only volunteering to help but by
selling tickets. Tickets are presently available from me, and I will be happy to issue members tickets to
sell. Tickets can also be ordered on-line from our website. This year we are rolling out a contest to
award prizes to members that sell tickets. Jaylene Armstrong is generously donating 5 pieces of her
custom precious stone jewelry with each item having a retail value of approximately $300. The top
4 ticket sellers will receive one of these beautiful jewelry creations, while everyone who sells a pair
of tickets will be entered into a drawing to have a chance at winning the remaining piece of jewelry. We
really want to show the community how fantastic the art work is from local artists and
what a vital role the visual arts can play in the culture of our city. So, get out there, spread the word and
support the SCAA by selling tickets!
Although this newsletter will have been published
prior to the SCAA Barbecue, I do want to take a moment to thank all of those who helped and
attended. Cheri & Howard Marcovitch are indispensable; always ready to pitch in on every
event. To them I express my thanks for bringing over an additional huge BBQ and helping to cook. My
own parents, Richard & Louise Earnest came to lend their support in setting up and seeing to
the needs of guests, while my husband, John, and children, Erika and Austin, all pitched in to
beautify the house and set up. There are not enough words in the dictionary to say to all of them how
much their support means, but the words I Love You seem fitting. |
Thank you to our Sponsors!
